9/15/2023 0 Comments Gollum lord of rings return king![]() While fishing with his friend they both come across the infamous One Ring and the ring causes the both of them to fight over it with Gollum winning said fight and actually killing his friend for it. However, one thing that was not shown up until the third and last movie was how Gollum turned in to this nasty looking creature. Throughout the Lord of the Rings series a creature named Gollum has been in pursuit of The One Ring being carried by Frodo and is always shown being obsessive and protective of it. Yes, doing it with CGI is safer, but it did not hold up at all in 4k and it takes the magic out of the movie. This scene is definitely one of my favorite scenes of all time simply for the back story and the set up also. For example during the troll fight, some of the dwarfs are tossed up in the air and it's just so painfully obvious that it wasn't even a stunt double doing the move, it was full CGI. I was watching An Unexpected Journey on our 4K tv and the dated/poor CGI really showed in a handful of scenes and it bummed me out in a way I'd never experienced before. What I find somewhat sad is that LOTRs CGI has held up way better than the Hobbit trilogies CGI. ![]() I do notice when the Hobbits transition from the size stand-ins to the Hobbit actors since I feel it's more obvious now with the larger tvs and better resolution, but again, small potatoes in the grand scheme. ![]() As a whole, I have zero complaints about what I do notice since it's still pretty minimal. I now notice some things thay I didn't before watching it on our old TV, but that's bound to happen eventually when watching an older movie that's been remastered for 4k. We recently got a 4k TV and the CGI has held up pretty well for a 20 year old movie.
